Independent practice.Connected care.

When a Kansas City medical practice separated from hospital management, it needed an IT environment of its own—and a partner to support it.

IMSKC helped establish independent infrastructure across two buildings, coordinated the transition of essential clinical workflows, and became the practice’s ongoing managed IT provider.

The challenge

Independence meant rebuilding the essentials.

The practice relied on electronic health records, medical imaging, phones, and fax throughout the clinical day. Moving away from hospital-managed IT meant establishing its own network, email, communications, and workstations while keeping those workflows moving.

Leadership needed clarity about the transition and confidence in what would happen afterward: who would maintain the systems, support staff, and manage day-to-day IT needs?

Client: A Kansas City medical practice.

One continuous relationship

Make the transition. Support what comes next.

  1. 01

    Phase 01

    Make the transition

Plan, deploy, and validate an independent environment.

  2. 02

    Phase 02

    Support the practice

Maintain systems, support staff, and manage everyday IT.

One partner from deployment through daily operations.

Phase 01 · Implementation

First, make the transition.

The engagement began with a Statement of Work, Master Services Agreement, and HIPAA Business Associate Agreement. Equipment estimates and project schedules gave practice leadership visibility into scope, cost, and timing.

IMSKC then coordinated deployment across both buildings.

  1. 01

    A network of its own

New network infrastructure replaced hospital-provided connectivity, establishing the foundation for the practice’s independent environment.

  2. 02

    Email and everyday productivity

A Microsoft 365 rollout provided the practice’s email and productivity environment.

  3. 03

    Communication built around staff

IMSKC deployed Zoom Phone and headsets, supported by an extension guide staff could use during everyday work.

  4. 04

    Workstations ready for use

Endpoint setup and workspace-by-workspace validation helped prepare the environment for the people using it.

Clinical-system coordination

Clinical workflows were part of the plan.

The transition extended beyond networks and devices. IMSKC coordinated the systems supporting clinical work.

IMSKC also rebuilt the practice’s form library to reflect its own identity rather than the hospital’s.

Documentation and handoff

Documentation that stays with the practice.

The project produced a working library of deployment trackers, operational runbooks, installation guides, phone and headset rosters, and workspace validation walkthroughs.

These resources gave the practice documentation it owned—and gave the support team a consistent foundation for maintaining the environment after launch.

Phase 02 · Ongoing managed services

Then, support the practice every day.

With the independent infrastructure live, IMSKC moved into ongoing managed services.

Predictable maintenance

Weekly Windows updates are managed through a remote monitoring platform. Practice leadership approved a standing after-hours maintenance window, keeping planned patching outside clinic hours.

A dedicated support contact

Staff who previously depended on the hospital help desk now have a single point of contact for network, email, phones, and workstation support.

Documented security responsibilities

Managed services operate under the HIPAA Business Associate Agreement signed at kickoff. Documented, repeatable processes support the practice’s security posture.

Results

An independent environment. An ongoing relationship.

The practice now operates its own documented IT environment across two buildings, supported by the same partner that helped establish it.

Network infrastructure, Microsoft 365, Zoom Phone, and workstations are live. Clinical-system coordination supported continuity through the transition. Scheduled maintenance and dedicated support provide a clear operating model for everyday IT.

The decisions and documentation from the transition continue to support the practice long after deployment.
