A global customer base.A closer connection to their equipment.
IMSKC built a custom portal for a long-established heavy-equipment manufacturer, giving customers and internal teams online access to equipment condition, fault history, and grouped-equipment performance.
An approximately four-month initial build, followed by ongoing maintenance and feature development.

The client
Supporting customers across distance.
The client is a long-established manufacturer of heavy equipment, serving a geographically dispersed customer base through a distributor network that reaches around the world.
Supporting that reach means understanding equipment in use far beyond the manufacturer’s own facilities. Customers wanted convenient visibility into their equipment, while internal teams needed better information to investigate issues and support them.
The business had a clear vision for the platform. It needed development capacity and a partner to carry that vision through delivery.
The challenge
The equipment had the data. People needed access.
Before the portal, useful information was available directly on the equipment, but it was not readily accessible online.
When internal staff needed to understand what was happening with a customer’s equipment, they often had to contact the customer or rely on information passed through customer service. Troubleshooting could begin with collecting details rather than reviewing them.
Client: A long-established heavy-equipment manufacturer.
Before and after
Start with the information. Then start the conversation.
Collect details first.
Investigation often began by reaching out to the customer to find out what the equipment was reporting.
- 01Contact the customer
- 02Gather equipment details
- 03Begin investigation
Calls and site visits still have their place. The difference is that they can start with more of the picture.
Equipment-level detail
From a status question to diagnostic context.
The portal brings equipment records, operating readings, battery information, and fault history into one online view. Users can move from an overview into the details needed to investigate an issue.
Equipment identity
Equipment number, installation date, nickname, and description help users identify the unit they are reviewing.
Battery condition
Battery percentage, a condition summary, charging guidance, and a last-updated timestamp provide context about the reported battery state.
Fault and system records
Fault codes include code numbers, descriptions, and timestamps, with search and filtering controls. A separate system-code view provides another route into diagnostic information.
Operating and connection history
Historical records include battery voltage, height, weight, status, wireless network information, signal strength, and timestamps. Date controls help narrow the period under review.
Multiple ways to review the data
Battery-status and height-versus-voltage views complement the historical table, allowing users to explore different aspects of equipment behavior.
Better support starts with more context: what was reported, when it happened, and which equipment was involved.
Group-level monitoring
See the individual unit. Understand the group.
Some equipment operates in paired groups. The portal extends visibility beyond a single unit to show group condition, member readings, synchronization, and the sequence of recorded events.
Group condition at a glance
Group summaries show:
- Number of equipment members
- Lowest battery level
- Active fault count
- Connectivity
- Average signal strength
- Total weight
Individual member cards add height, weight, battery, signal, connection status, and fault counts, with links into each equipment record.
Synchronization and visual context
Comparison views cover height, weight, signal, and battery. The height view identifies deviation from the group reference and displays a synchronization warning.
A vehicle-position visualization helps users relate equipment members to their positions.
A timeline for investigation
The group timeline records events such as:
- Equipment joining the group
- Group creation
- Applied weight
- Synchronized movement
- Detected faults
Groups are created when equipment is paired and end when all members shut down.
Monitoring and diagnostic views. The portal does not control equipment movement or replace equipment safety systems.
Putting it together
From a group warning to the underlying detail.
- Step 01
Review the group
See overall condition, active faults, battery information, and connectivity.
- Step 02
Compare the members
Review individual readings and identify equipment showing a deviation or fault.
- Step 03
Open the equipment record
Inspect equipment details, battery condition, and timestamped fault descriptions.
- Step 04
Review the history
Use historical readings and the event timeline to build context for the next service conversation.
Who it serves
Better information on both sides of the relationship.
For customers
Online access provides visibility into their equipment and a clearer starting point when they need support.
For internal teams
Visibility across customer equipment helps staff investigate reported conditions and approach service conversations with more context.
Technical approach
Connecting to the existing equipment environment.
IMSKC built the portal around the manufacturer’s existing equipment-information environment. The integration brings equipment records and operating data into the application, where users can review individual units and paired groups.
The manufacturer supplied information architecture and context about its current equipment environment, working with IMSKC throughout design and development.

Technology
- 01
Laravel
The backend framework for the portal application and its equipment-information workflows.
- 02
React
Equipment detail pages, group summaries, diagnostic tables, and visual comparisons.
- 03
MariaDB
The database technology supporting the application and its data-backed views.
Delivery approach
From an idea to a live platform.
The initial build took approximately four months. IMSKC was responsible for building and delivering the platform, then maintaining it and continuing development as the business’s needs evolved.
- 01
Discovery grounded in the business
Meetings, video calls, and on-site visits helped IMSKC understand the workflows and the existing equipment environment. The client contributed design feedback, technical context, and ongoing collaboration.
- 02
A defined first phase
A well-scoped Statement of Work and shared expectations guided phase one.
- 03
Support for adoption
Documentation, on-site training, and phased feature releases supported users as the platform moved into use.
- 04
Ongoing development
IMSKC continues maintenance and feature development as the manufacturer builds on the initial platform.
Results
Live access. A foundation for broader rollout.
Customers and internal teams can now access equipment information online, with detailed diagnostic and group-monitoring views demonstrated in the platform.
The portal is live, with broader rollout still ahead. The manufacturer now has a working foundation for improving equipment visibility and developing its digital service experience.
- 01
Equipment information available beyond the equipment itself
- 02
Battery, fault, operating, and connectivity detail in one portal
- 03
Visibility into paired groups and synchronization warnings
- 04
Timestamped history to support investigation
- 05
Ongoing maintenance and feature development
